Tollesboro Fire Department
Our Fire Department located in a small,
unincorporated village in Western
Lewis
County serves an 86 square mile district. The department protects 2 schools, 26
businesses, 8 churches, and 1 primary care facility, as well as a highly
populated rural residential area. Over the last few years, the area has seen a
drastic increase in manufactured housing in the community. However, the
department is distanced from other departments in the county, making automatic
and mutual aid very timely. The department must rely on its own equipment
and firefighters to effectively save lives and protect property in its district.
In
2003, the Tollesboro Volunteer Fire Department achieved an ISO rating of 5/9.
This helps homeowners, with certain insurance companies, located within 1000
feet from a fire hydrant and five miles from the fire department to lower their
annual premium.
